Crowns & Bridges
CROWNS
Your teeth depend on one another to eat and talk. Damage to one tooth may compromise the health of the others. Chewing may become difficult or your smile may change. A simple crown can restore your mouth and smile to its normal state. Cosmetically, crowns are a very popular choice as they can help achieve an amazing cosmetic result & are very durable long term.
A Crown is a strong porcelain cover that is placed on an individual tooth to restore a decayed or damaged tooth to its normal size. Occasionally, they can consist of gold covered with porcelain when a higher degree of strength is required. They are used when there is no longer sufficient tooth structure left to place a regular restoration or to protect a cracked or broken tooth. They can also be used to protect and strengthen teeth that have undergone Root Canal Treatment or to change the shape of your tooth to correct a bite or cosmetic problem, to replace an existing or a poorly fitting crown.
Bridges fill gaps left by missing teeth that can dramatically improve your smile and your overall mouth function. It is now a very affordable option and can be performed under local anaesthetic.
A bridge is a custom device anchored to adjacent teeth that replaces one or more missing teeth. Losing a permanent tooth – whether it is due to dental decay, periodontal disease, injury or accident – can cause many serious problems for your neighbouring teeth. The remaining teeth may begin to shift due to altered forces, the surrounding teeth also will deteriorate faster due to increased forces and stresses on them. Once the bridge is in place, the teeth are stable again.
A fixed bridge is commonly cemented to the natural teeth next to the space left by the missing tooth. A false tooth replaces the lost tooth, this is attached to the crowns that cover the adjacent teeth. The crowns, which are cemented onto the natural teeth, provide support for the bridge.
